Their day begins with search for water

Due to the acute shortage, residents are forced to shell out nearly Rs 10 per pot. The worst-affected are residents in and around Yadalam Nagar, Kodipalya, Vasanthapura, Konanakunte Cross.

The borewells dug by BBMP and BWSSB in all these areas have become redundant due to depletion of groundwater table. The disruption in power supply has only added to their woes.

As pointed out by Rangappa, a resident: “We are supplied water during odd hours and we cannot afford to buy water through tankers by paying Rs 8 to Rs 10 per pot.”

Scanty rains have aggravated the situation across the City, which received only 8.3 mm rainfall as against the average of 130.7 mm of rainfall, so far in August.

Admitting to the crisis in the area, Corporator Ramesh Raju said he was demanding for Cauvery water supply but the BBMP had not agreed to supply water to Palike’s newly-added areas.
