Speaking to presspersons after inspecting the encroached government land at Sundara Betta region in the city, he said that criminal case should be booked against those who have encroached government land.

Stating that there is land mafia behind the encroachment of government land, he said that the outsiders in Kodagu district are making the Kodagu residents an outsider.

“Hence, the residents of Kodagu do not have space to build houses. What will remain for the Kodavas if land is regularised in the name of Akrama Sakrma?” he questioned.

Nanaiah said that the district administration should bring all the government land from Thalathmane to the hills beside it, under Madikeri CMC limits and strive to keep it green.

“All the measures should be initiated to evict the illegally encroached land. No concrete buildings should come up in the green zone of Madikeri CMC limits.  I have already brought to the notice of Deputy Commissioner the forces involved in selling of land to outsiders. I have written three letters to the Deputy Commissioner with regard to protection of government land,” Nanaiah said and added that Kodavas do not want resort culture in Kodagu. Nanaiah said that 2.5 acre land on the top of a hillock at Chamundeshwari Nagara in CMC limits and Made Gram Panchayat have been sold at a cost of Rs 4 crore illegally. CMC President P D Ponnappa said that all the illegally encroached land will be removed and criminal case will filed against the culprits.

Later, they also visited Chamundeshwari Nagara, Stone Hill and Azad Nagara. The fence along with coconut trees and banana plantations were removed from the illegally encroached land.
