Indiranagar residents to crowdfund PIL against commercialisation

Last Updated 07 April 2018, 18:42 IST

The soaring commercialisation of residential localities has now compelled the residents of Indiranagar to crowdfund their efforts to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) with the High Court of Karnataka against numerous violations.

The residents, under the banner of 'I Change Indiranagar', decided to take the step after several previous efforts.

The residents earlier organised numerous protests, filed a number of court cases against illegal commercial establishments in residential areas, including the opening of rooftop pubs, bars and microbreweries, in the neighbourhood.

"The relevant authorities and all the elected representatives are aware of our problems. Yet, they seem to prefer protecting the violators and have vested interests rather than helping us," reads the letter, which has been circulated among residents.

The money collected through this process will be eventually used to file a petition in the high court.

The umbrella organisation 'I Change Indiranagar' includes eight residents' welfare associations, including Indiranagar 1st Stage, 2nd Stage, Defence Colony, HAL 2nd Stage and 3rd Stage.
