Mollywood star Mohanlal took to Twitter on Saturday to thank fans for supporting and enjoying his latest movie Drishyam 2. The actor said that he was 'overwhelmed' by the response and revealed that several fans have praised his performance in the biggie.

Drishyam 2, directed by Jeethu Joseph, is a thriller that revolves around the journey of a cable operator-turned-theatre owner. It is a sequel to the 2013 release Drishyam, which emerged as a big hit at the box office while receiving rave reviews from critics. The prequel highlighted a protective father's attempts at trying to save his family from a grave danger. It was later remade in multiple languages, emerging as a pan-India brand. The cast included Meena, Esther Anil and Ansiba.

The general perception is that Drishyam 2 does justice to the standards set by the first part. The film was originally supposed to hit the screens but that did not happen due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The makers ultimately decided to release it on Amazon Prime Video, skipping the theatrical route.

Mohanlal, meanwhile, is going through a terrific time on the work front. 'Lalettan' will soon be seen in the eagerly-awaited movie Aaraattu, which features him in a new avatar. The comedy stars Shraddha Srinath as the leading lady and marks her return to Mollywood after six years. She had previously essayed a key role in the 2015 release Kohinoor, which marked her debut.

Mohanlal will also be seen in the period-drama Marakkar that revolves around the life of a naval admiral. The film failed to release last year due to the Covid-19 situation. The biggie is likely to release in theatres later this year. It has a star-studded cast that includes Arjun Sarja, Manju Warrier, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty and Pranav Mohanlal.

There have also been talks of him teaming up with Jr NTR for a Telugu movie to be helmed by Trivikram Srinivas.
