A wannabe writer Sophie (Amanda) dashes off to Verona in Italy with fiancee Victor (Gael Garcia Bernal) for their pre-wedding trip. However, Victor is busy to pay attention to her. So, Sophie walks the streets alone and accidentally lands at a spot where lovesick girls stick letters on a stone wall.
After meeting “Secretaries of Juliet” who answer these letters, Sophie joins them and implores a British woman Claire (Vanessa) to find her true Italian lover Lorenzo after 50 years. Soon, Claire arrives in Italy with her grandson Charlie (Christopher). The trio then drives out to find Lorenzo and soon Sophie begins to have second thoughts on what is true love.
This chick-flick is ridiculous. Finding one’s ‘true love’ plot is just predictable. The only saving grace are panoramic view of Italian countryside and the actors. This sugar-coated film may be perfect gateway for young couples while for general audience it’s a big yawn.
