Actor Tanuj Virwani says that his Bollywood career did not go as planned because he lacked maturity and failed to make good decisions.

"My decision-making could have been better. Moreover, I was a bit immature and quite inexperienced," he told DH in an exclusive interview.

Tanuj began his Bollywood career with the 2013 romantic drama Luv U Soniyo, which hit the screens in 2013, but failed to make an impact. He acted alongside Aditya Seal in Purani Jeans, which did not find wide patronage. The star garnered a fair deal of attention when he acted alongside Sunny Leone in One Night Stand, an erotic drama with plenty of bold scenes. The Jasmine D'Souza-helmed movie, however, failed to reach its potential as the word of mouth was not too favourable.

Tanuj ultimately decided to explore the OTT space, thus putting his Bollywood career on hold. The decision worked wonders for the young star as his maiden web series Inside Edge emerged as a hit with the 'Gen Y' audience. The actor essayed the role of the feisty Vayu Raghavan on the show and impressed fans with his work. The star reprised his role in the second season, hitting the right notes with his performance. He also acted in Poison, Code M and Masaba Masaba.

"OTT is an exciting place. In films, sometimes there is a lack of freedom and things need to be larger-than-life. This is not the case with digital and there are no 'hero' or 'heroine' roles. This helps us flex our acting chops," said Tanuj

Tanuj hopes to 'flex his acting chops' with his upcoming web series Kamathipura. The Hotstar original features him in a negative role and has a hard-hitting storyline.

"It's completely different from whatever I have done in the past and is set in a gritty world," he added.

The show revolves around the dynamics between a don, played by Tanuj, and a female cop. It is slated to stream from March 8.

Tanuj, meanwhile, will soon be reprising the role of Vayu Raghavan in Inside Edge 3. The star is also expected to star in a few movies in the coming months.
