'Param Sundari' movie review: Old wine in new bottle

There are certain stereotypes we associate with regions and people, and Param Sundari could be a textbook definition of seeing these stereotypes on screen. A rich and spoilt brat who never really worked a day in his life, wants to invest in a billion-dollar idea using his father’s money. The playboy then falls in love with a southern belle who has faced hardships and is now looking after her younger sister.

Sidharth Malhotra stars as Param, a wannabe investor who is pulled towards investing in an app which finds your soulmate. The app points him to Kerala, where Sundari (Janhvi Kapoor) is supposed to be his 100% match. The catch? His father refuses to give him the money until he has proof of concept, and Param lands at Sundari’s homestay in a bid to gather the proof.

As he fulfils his destiny to invest in a future unicorn, Param finds himself falling in love with Sundari. However, Sundari’s wedding is fixed to her childhood best friend, Venu (Siddhartha Shankar), a soft-spoken well-mannered all-rounder in life.

Param realises the way to win over Sundari is to win over the town and what better way to do so than by winning the Onam trophy which has evaded the town for years.

The movie lacks substance, with no noteworthy performances. The dialogues are intended to make you laugh but fall flat. Overall, one can predict what happens next and Param Sundari fails to make a mark on your heart.
