<p>According to Tehelka, Dr Nori is heading a team of doctors consisting surgical and clinical oncologists treating Sonia Gandhi. Dr Nori, not a surgeon himself, will contribute years of his experience to the team members at Kettering Cancer Centre.<br /><br />He has treated a number of dignitaries from India, including former president Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, actress Nargis Dutt and former vice- president Krishna Kant, successfully.<br /><br />Dr Nori is the trustee and chief scientific adviser of Bsavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute at Banjara Hills here, and also director of the Cancer Centre and professor and chairman of the Radiation Oncology Department at New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Centre of Cornell University.<br /><br />“We are happy that Dr Nori’s expertise at Kettering Centre will be used for a famous leader from India, however, we need to receive a confirmation about the involvement of Dr Nori in the actual process of treatment,” a spokesperson of Indo-American Cancer Hospital here told Deccan Herald.<br /><br />Dr Nori has served as principal investigator for numerous clinical trials sponsored by the National Cancer Institute and has received several national and international awards for his contributions to cancer research and helping cancer patients in the US and India.<br /><br />He has trained over 200 residents and fellows, and published over 200 scientific articles and three books on oncology and is a visiting professor to many universities in the US, India and other countries.<br /><br />The famous oncologist was born in Vallur, a small village in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. He did MBBS at Kurnool Medical College and received his postgraduate medical degree from Osmania University. <br /><br />He then joined Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre in New York City where he became chief of the Brachytherapy Service before accepting his current position as chairman of Radiation Oncology at Cornell.<br /></p>
