<p>Patna: In a significant development, which may have wide political repercussions in the ensuing Assembly polls, the Nitish Kumar regime in Bihar approved 35 per cent reservation in the state government jobs for “women who originally hail from Bihar”.</p><p>A decision to this effect was taken on July 8 at the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/nitish-kumar">Nitish Kumar</a>.</p><p>“All those women, who originally hail from Bihar, will be eligible for 35 per cent reservation in all the state government jobs,” said Principal Secretary, Cabinet Coordination Department, S Siddharth.</p><p>Women in Bihar have been availing job quota earlier too. But with today’s Cabinet nod, the domicile policy has come into effect.</p><p>“Women (from other States) applying for the jobs will be treated as general category and cannot avail 35 per cent quota as this is primarily reserved for women from Bihar only,” clarified Siddharth.</p><p>The Cabinet also decided to constitute Bihar Youth Commission, which will make youths in the state self-reliant, provide fiscal assistance and empower the youth after honing their skills.</p>.BJP, Nitish Kumar made Bihar 'crime capital of India': Rahul on Khemka killing.<p><strong>Poll vault</strong></p><p>With barely a few months left for the Assembly poll, the ruling NDA regime headed by Nitish is wooing women and youth in particular.</p><p>Notably, half of the 7.8 crore voters in Bihar are women electorate. It is this section which has rallied around Nitish since 2010 when his scheme for school uniform and bicycle for girl students fetched him rich political dividends.</p><p>Nitish, who gave 35 per cent reservation to women in panchayat election too, saw further women empowerment with many women from rural hinterland emerging as mukhiya.</p><p>Making 35 per cent reservation for women in jobs in the field of health, education and police saw women in droves getting employment in junior and middle level in state government jobs.</p><p>Add to it the Prohibition policy, implemented in Bihar since April 2016. A majority of women, from all strata of the society, have rallied around Nitish after massive decline in domestic violence incidents in the State.</p>
