At least 12 killed, 43 injured in Nashik bus accident

At least 12 passengers, including a two-year-old child, were killed and 43 others injured after a private bus hit a trailer truck and caught fire in Nashik city of Maharashtra early on Saturday, police officials said.

After ramming the truck, the bus also hit a mini-van, causing it to overturn. All the deceased passengers were from the bus. Some of them were charred while some were identified, a police officer said, adding that DNA tests will be conducted to establish the identity of the unknown deceased.

The accident occurred at Nandur Naka on Nashik-Aurangabad highway around 5.15 am when the bus, a 'sleeper coach', was coming from Yavatmal in eastern Maharashtra and travelling towards Mumbai, police said.

China on Saturday criticized the latest USdecision to tighten export controls that would make it harder for China to obtain and manufacture advanced computing chips, calling it a violation of international economic and trade rules that will “isolate and backfire” on the US.

“Out of the need to maintain its sci-tech hegemony, the US abuses export control measures to maliciously block and suppress Chinese companies,” said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning.

“It will not only damage the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies, but also affect American companies' interests,” she said.

The Coast Guard and Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad have seizedheroinworth Rs 360 crore from a Pakistani boat off the state coast, an official said on Saturday. It’s the sovereign right of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries to decide on the oil production capacities, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri said Friday.

Refraining from commenting on the controversial decision of OPEC on cutting oil production by two million barrels a day, which has taken the world by surprise, Puri said it is likely to be scrutinized very carefully.
