FDI to help Rahul's foreign friends: Maya

Last Updated 26 November 2011, 18:11 IST

The accusation seems to be in direct response to Rahul’s repeated charge of rampant corruption in the state under Mayawati. She also hinted that her party which has been supporting the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) from outside could withdraw support.
Speaking to reporters here, Mayawati termed the government’s decision “anti-poor' and “suicidal.” She  demanded its immediate scrapping saying the country would become an “economic slave” of the west if it was allowed.

“The Centre, in a bid to benefit the foreign friends of Rahul and make them millionaires, has decided to hand over India’s economy to foreign companies,” Mayawati said.

“The prince of the Congress often goes abroad for picnic after spending a few weeks in the country. Since he has been brought up abroad mostly, his way of thinking is also like a foreigner...so sometimes he takes his foreign friends to the huts of the poor for entertainment,” she said.

She said that her government would not allow any foreign company to open shop in UP and her party would oppose the move both inside and outside Parliament.
