<p>Ahmedabad: Renowned Kathak dancer and Padma Vibhushan recipient Kumudini Lakhia passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 95 in <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/ahmedabad">Ahmedabad</a>.</p><p>She is survived by her daughter Maitreyi Hattangadi, who is also a Kathak dancer and son Shriraj, who lives abroad. The centre's website says that after a "distinguished profession as a solo dancer," she started this centre.</p><p>Its website describes her as "a legend known for her unparalleled technical expertise and immense artistry. A lifetime dedicated to learning, exploring, teaching and creating has ensured her an enviable place in the history of dance."</p><p>On this Republic Day, she was conferred the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award. Earlier in 1987, she had been honoured with a Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan in 2010 for contribution in the field of art.</p><p>The list of some of her students, according to the website, who have been promoting Kathak in the country includes Aditi Mangaldas, Daksha Sheth, Maulik Shah and Ishira Parikh, Vaishali Trivedi and Gargi Shah.</p>
