<p>The US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will visit India on May 7 and 8, just a few weeks before she and her Indian counterpart External Affairs Minister S M Krishna are set to lead the bilateral strategic dialogue in Washington. <br /><br /></p>.<p>Clinton is likely to meet West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her visit to Kolkata on May 7. She would then call on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and hold talks with Krishna in New Delhi. <br /><br />The US Secretary of State will visit China on May 3 and 4 with American Secretary of Treasury Timothy Geithner. The duo will meet their Chinese counterparts for holding strategic and economic dialogues. Clinton will then travel to Dhaka for her maiden visit to Bangladesh as the US Secretary of State.<br /><br />Clinton’s meeting with Banerjee assumes significance as the mercurial Trinamool Congress leader has, over the past few months, red-flagged several moves for economic reforms by the UPA . The US, on the other hand, has been nudging India to expedite reforms and open up the economy.<br /><br />Banerjee opposed the UPA government’s decision to allow 26 per cent foreign direct investment in the multi-brand retail and forced the latter to put it on hold. <br />Her strong objections on the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Bill prevented the Government from introducing it in Parliament during the last Winter Session.</p>
