The Humanities and Science undergraduate degrees are expected to be introduced from the next academic session. For these, we will set up a school of undergraduate studies,” said a senior official.

According to the official, formulation of the proposal took over a year. “Once we get necessary permissions from the UGC we will start the process of implementing the courses,” added the official.

The official also said the courses are designed in a way which will give students more choices to study rather than limiting them to a specific subject.

“A student who has opted for Science will not only study courses like Physics, Chemistry and Biology, but will be given a choice to choose Humanities subjects like Sociology, Political Science, Economics among others,” he said.

“This way, the student will have the knowledge on varied subjects. In the third year, the student will specialise in a subject which he or she wants to pursue in postgraduation for better research outputs,” said the official.

Underlining that changes are necessary in the university, the official said new courses will be taught under the credit-based system. “Higher education institutions are incomplete without offering stream-based undergraduate degrees.
