<p>Kudligi, (Vijayanagar dist): As many as 13 individuals took ill after inhaling a chlorine-based gas leaking from a cylinder in Kudligi in Vijayanagara district on Tuesday night. The gas, used for cleaning, was stored in a cylinder at a godown in a locality that falls within the jurisdiction of Kudligi Town Panchayat.</p>.<p>Around 10.30pm on Tuesday, gas leaking from the cylinder interacted with bleaching powder that was kept nearby, igniting a fire in the godown. Residents immediately alerted both the Town Panchayat and the Fire and Emergency Services Personnel. Meanwhile, one home guard, one Town Panchayat member, and five residents too fell sick. They were all rushed to the government hospital in Kudligi town, and subsequently taken to Ballari Institute of Medical Sciences for further treatment.</p>.<p>Residents said the cylinder in question had been lying unused in the godown for 15 years now. The personnel who remained at the godown subsequently brought down one of its walls and got the cylinder outside. It was disposed of outside the town.</p>
