<p>Pointing out that the country is plagued with problems such as poverty, hunger, corruption and black money, lecturer D S Sadashivamurthy opined that all issues could be addressed if social reformer Basavanna’s teachings were followed by the present generation.<br /><br />He was addressing the ‘Basava Jayanthi’ programme organised by ‘Vidyarthi Basava Balaga’ at the Humanities Auditorium, in the University of Mysore here on Friday.<br />Mentioning that corruption had become a major concern, he said that the country’s growth had been stunted because of the massive black money. <br /><br />He said that hundreds of crores are being looted in the name of development.<br /><br />Calling upon citizens to pay their taxes honestly, Sadashivamurthy said that it acts as the main source of income for developing the country. <br /><br />Observing that folk artistes had correctly understood the teachings of Basavanna, he said that the revolution by the social reformer in terms of providing a common platform for gender and caste caused a huge social revolution.<br /><br />Sadashivamurthy said that Basavanna identified himself with people from the lower strata of society, making him a true leader. <br /><br />Politicians should learn from the acts of Basavanna, he added.<br /><br />He also mentioned that by providing simple understandable literature, Basavanna had made a priceless contribution to the Kannada.<br /><br />Karnataka Zoo Authority Chairman Nanjundaswamy, Seer Sri Mummadi Chandrashekar Shivacharya, former ZP president K N Puttabuddhi and others were present.</p>
