2 detained for blackmailing trader

A women's rights organisation founder and son have been detained for extorting money from a businessman.

The suspects are Bharathi Nayak, the founder of the organisation, and her son Sagar.

According to Prasad, a vegetable wholesale businessman from Rajajinagar, the duo extorted Rs 4 lakh from him.

Priyadarshini, a computer operator, worked for Prasad. Her sister Nadia would visit Priyadarshini at the office.

She had borrowed money from Prasad, but had failed to repay. She video graphed his intimate moments and started blackmailing him. She threatened to release the video to news channels, upload on social media, besides handing it over to his family members.

The suspects extorted Rs 4 lakh and demanded Rs 5 lakh more.

According to Prasad, the suspects had invited him to Orion Mall in Yeshwanthpur directing him to bring Rs 5 lakh. They assaulted him as they spotted his hidden camera. The police are examining CCTV footage to verify what actually happened at the mall.
