Nearly seven months after Pradeep Singh Kharola was transferred, Ajay Seth took over the charge of the managing director of the BMRCL on Monday.

Urban Development Department Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Mahendra Jain was holding concurrent charge of the BMRCL for over six months after Kharola’s exit.

Seth, a 1987 batch IAS officer, was ACS, Health and Family Welfare Department, the portfolio he will continue to hold concurrently until further orders. The senior officer faces the challenge of ensuring that Namma Metro Phase 2 projects meet the deadline of March 2021, as announced last year.

Work on several stretches has been delayed by at least three years if the latest tenders for underground section of Gottigere-Nagawara are any indication. From the earlier deadline of 2020, Phase 2 works will continue to at least 2023.
