Bengaluru: Suspect who killed ex-gram panchayat president shot in leg by police

Bengaluru: A Bengaluru South police team shot a murder suspect in the leg in Gabbadi village on Monday morning.

The suspect, Srinivas, 45, had allegedly hacked to death Nanjesh (46), former president of the Achalu gram panchayat, at a dhaba in Sathanur on Saturday night with the help of four associates.

The police said that Srinivas attacked constable Ramesh while resisting arrest, prompting them to open fire. He was later taken to hospital for treatment and legal procedures.

Preliminary investigation revealed that three days before the murder, Srinivas and Nanjesh had quarrelled over a property dispute in Honganidoddi. Srinivas had claimed ownership of a plot where he had built a shed, which Nanjesh had reportedly opposed. The shed was later demolished.

"This prompted Srinivas to plot the murder of Nanjesh, and hence he recruited four others and committed the crime,” a police officer said.

“His associates were also placed under arrest.”

The police team was led by Kanakapura inspector Anantharamu.
