<p>For, keeping in with the sentiments of its loyal legion of members and those who visit it to attend book launches, workshops, visa and education counsellings et al, the British Library will henceforth be open even on Sundays to suit the convenience of book lovers. <br /><br />Speaking to Deccan Herald, Manager Charu Sapra said, the reason for the first of its kind move was primarily to “make it easier for people to access our library, for a lot of them found it difficult due to parking problems on weekdays.” <br /><br />Furthermore, she said, it became difficult to squeeze in and conduct several interesting interactive programmes on weekdays as people couldn’t attend. <br /><br />“By keeping the library open on Sundays, it provides us an opportunity to conduct more and more programmes as also suit the convenience of the members, who can attend in large numbers and above all, not bother about parking space.”<br /><br />With membership on the rise specially of young, IT and institutional members, as also a large number of students aspiring to pursue higher education in the UK, she said: “We came up with this novel idea of keeping the library open on Sundays as part of our constant endeavour to provide better service to members and other book aficionados.” <br /><br />From February 1, 2011, the library will be open on Sundays. As a result, the library’s new work week will be from Tuesday to Sunday with Monday being holiday. The opening hours will remain the same as before — 10:30 am to 6:30 pm, Sapra said.<br /></p>
