Third ACMM Court has directed filing of a criminal case against four senior police officials including a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and a constable for illegal detention and assault on a youth.

The five police officials are DCP D Devaraj, assistant commissioner of police Siddappa, inspector Puneeth Kumar, sub-inspector Deepak and police constable Mallesh. The officials, on the pretext of a theft case, illegally detained Owaisi Sabir Hussain, 26, from his house on New BEL Road three years ago. During the illegal detention, the police also physically assaulted the youth.

Members of Hussain’s family approached the court and filed a case against the police. The trial was going on for the last three years. On Tuesday, the judge ordered registration of a criminal complaint against all five police personnel under sections 120-B, 323, 330, 348 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.

Hussain told the court that the policemen not only broke open the door of his house, but also assaulted him. The doctors who treated Hussain have also stated the injuries were severe in nature.
