Citizens and volunteers residing in and around JP Nagar 7th and 8th Phase on Sunday joined in the drive to clean the space around Kothanur Lake.

Over 100 volunteers took part in the clean-up work that went on for four hours.

Volunteers went around the 19-acre lake to pick up plastic waste strewn around by local residents.

B R Shivaswamy, president of the Kothanur Lake Development Association, said about 1.25 tonnes of garbage had been collected and handed over to the BBMP for disposal.

This apart, the volunteers also conducted an awareness campaign around the lake, urging the public not to litter the shore. They also took an oath with the slogan — Don’t throw garbage and don’t allow others to throw.
