On the night of May 27, a constable who objected to two youths smoking in front of his house in Panathur was attacked by a group of 10 men.
Subsequently, the policeman in question passed out.
Timmana Goud, a constable at the Whitefield traffic police station, is a resident of Panathur. On Monday, while returning home around 10.30 pm after duty, he saw two youths perched on a scooter smoking in front of his house. Taking objection to their presence, Goud asked why they were smoking there.
One of the youths asked the constable who was he to question them. Heated arguments ensued and the youths held the policeman by his collar, threatening him with dire consequences. Thereafter they left the spot.
At around 11 pm, the two youths returned with eight others and waited in front of Goud’s house. As he came out, the gang assaulted him to the extent that he fell unconscious. His family members informed the Marathahalli police. 10 men were detained and interrogated. The accused has been booked under IPC section 353 - assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty.
Woman cop assaulted
A traffic policewoman and her colleagues were assaulted by a roadside vendor while they tried to remove the footpath encroachment as part of a special drive near Yeshwantpur railway station on Tuesday.
The traffic police were clearing hawkers on the footpath in front of Yeshwantpur railway station. WPSI Radha of the Yeshwantpur traffic police station was clearing a kabab stall, illegally constructed on the footpath.
The woman vendor objected. Heated arguments ensued which escalated to fisticuffs. The WPSI arrested Vasantha for obstructing her from discharging her duties
