The Special Lokayukta Court has directed the Lokayukta police to write to the departments concerned about illegal purchase of agricultural land by MLA M Krishnappa and his family members.

The private complaint lodged by advocate Prakasha accused Krishnappa and his son MLA Priya Krishna of deliberately submitting false statements before the Election Commissioner and the Lokayukta, and that the two do not tally. Krishnappa and his son’s house and offices were raided on Thursday as a part of the investigations into the private complaint.

The Court which had sought a report on the investigations questioned why the Lokayukta police had not written about it to the departments concerned about Krishnappa violating the Karnataka Land Reforms Act, particularly Section 79(A), which states that a person buying agricultural land cannot have a non-agricultural income exceeding Rs 2 lakh per annum. The police have been directed to write for the cancellation of the sale deeds within a week’s time.
