<p>Some of India’s most revered classical music veterans including legendary vocalists and celebrated maestros of sitar, sarod, santoor, veena and the flute have descended over Delhi to mesmerise connoisseurs with their mastery this week. <br /><br /></p>.<p>Presented by Delhi Government’s Department of Art, Culture and Languages and the Punjabi Academy, the Delhi Classical Music Festival has brought together likes of vocalists Pandit Jasraj, Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan and Vidushi Girija Devi with artists like veena player Ustad Mustafa Raza, sitar maestro Budhaditya Mukherjee and sarod maestro Pt Biswajit Chowdhury.<br /><br />The five-day long festival at Kamani Auditorium opened yesterday with stellar performances by Pt Jasraj and Ustad Mustafa Raza. Pt Jasraj did full justice to the Mewati gharana started by his father Pt Moti Ram by singing rare bandishes from this school of music. Ustad Mustafa Raza played music from his Beenkar gharana and enchanted all with a rendition of vichitra veena, the instrument he specialises in. <br /><br />Sitar maestro Pt Budhaditya Mukherjee and vocalist Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan will be the attraction of the second day while the third day will bring together Vidushi Girija Devi and <br />Meeta Pandit. Sarod maestro Pt Biswajit Roy Chowdhury and young vocalist Manjari Asnare will regale the audience on the fourth day. The highlight of the festival will be a ‘jugalbandi’ between santoor-flute duo Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma and Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia. <br /><br />Secretary, Punjabi Acacdemy, Rawail Singh informed Metrolife, “Indian classical music artistes have taken Indian music to foreign shores where they have drawn unparalleled appreciation, at the same time they have a loyal audience back home. We believe we should promote Indian classical music more and more to be able to draw young blood into <br />its fold.”<br /></p>
