Vice President, M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday said though India has many international educational institutions, the education system has not risen above the Macaulay methods.

Venkaiah Naidu was speaking at the inauguration of the CMR University Campus, off Hennur-Bagalur Road. He also inaugurated the hostel block and distributed service awards to CMR faculty.

According to the Vice President, India is known as a world leader in education, but now there is a need for all educational institutions to bring back the old systems. Citing the example of the legendary Takshila, he said the ancient university had 64 courses.

“Nalanda University had the biggest library of the time. Takshila university alone had over 10,000 students. The central government is planning to add more IITs, IIMs, IISERs and IIITs across India. This would help in the future,” the Vice President added.

Also present on the occasion, National Public School President, Dr K P Gopalakrishna, said there is a need to give more importance to the education system, so that students going abroad for higher studies can remain in the country. There is a need to hold these students back in the talent pool, he said.

CMR Group of Education President and Rajya Sabha MP, K C Ramamurthy, was also present on the occasion.
