Family, including 2 senior citizens, stuck in 'jerking' lift for 15 mins at Bengaluru airport

A woman from Bengaluru shared her ordeal of being stuck inside a 'jerking' lift with her family at Terminal 2 of the Kempegowda International Airport.

Macqueline Fernandez took to her X account to share that the lift was stuck for almost 15 minutes. Fernandez was with her family and along with two other senior citizens.

Fernandez and her parents had gone to the airport to see off her sister who was set to board an international flight, as reported by Hindustan Times.

"Stuck in the lift of T2 nearly 15min with continuous jerking along with my family including 2 senior citizens! Jolt bolting experience to go through just before boarding an Intl.Flight if you ask me! What hazard standards are these?" the post on X read.

There was no phone inside the lift, Fernandez told the publication, adding that the emergency numbers that were provided were also of no help, as the "Duty Manager" contact was unreachable.

After trying several times, finally a call was connected with the Terminal Manager who "took a casual approach" to her concern, she said.

The manager informed them that there was a power outage, and they were looking into the issue, failing to tell them an estimated time by when the lift could start functioning again.

"Parents tried to really stay calm, but I was scared myself... and to have the anxious worry of when will someone even show up, and no telephone in the lift," she told HT.

After 15 minutes of being stuck in the lift with constant jerks, the lift started working. However, Fernandez mentioned that there was no empathy shown to them, which according to her was more upsetting than the whole situation.

There were two technicians and two security guards outside, who showed "no empathy" to them, the publication stated.

However, later she posted on X saying that she received a call from the airport authority, apologising for what happened.

"@BLRAirport Thanks for the call. The least I expect in a place like T2 is uninterrupted lift service. How can you have a lapse/break in power supply for an elevator?" she wrote.
