The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) will host the grand finale of the Smart India Hackathon 2018 – Hardware Edition from June 18 to 22 at its premises in the city.

The Ministry of Human Resources Development along with AICTE, Persistent Systems, i4C and IIT Kharagpur is organising the event, wherein the students will showcase their creativity in hardware products. The products to be displayed here aim at solving issues that bother the country, including the availability of clean water, waste management, creation of smart
vehicles and smart communication.

Speaking about the event, Prof Joy Kuri, chairman, Electronics Systems Engineering Department, IISc, said the theme of the event was ‘Smart Vehicles’. Under the hardware edition, 4,362 ideas were received, with over 50,000 students participating from over 752 technical institutions. After two internal rounds of evaluation, 106 teams have been shortlisted to compete under 10 themes.

The event is open round-the-clock for the whole week, where 12 finalist teams from around the country will be mentored and supported in developing and testing their prototypes to take it to the next level. Their progress will later be reviewed by a group of academics, industrialists, entrepreneurs and investors. On June 22, the jury will announce the winners.
