<p>IPS officer Vartika Katiyar has accused her husband Niteen Subhash of dowry harassment, physical and mental abuse. She sought action against Subhash and six of his family members.</p>.<p>Cubbon Park police have registered an FIR against seven people, including Subhash, his parents and other family members and have invoked the Dowry Prohibition act, criminal intimidation, cruelty, cheating and other charges.</p>.<p>In her complaint, Vartika said that her husband’s family tortured her between November 2011 and February 2021. Subhash and his family are accused of forcing Vartika’s family to give gold ornaments and demanded her to bring cash. The FIR cited two instances of monetary demands, once Rs 3 lakh and another time Rs 35 lakhs.</p>.<p>"Many times, by threatening and blackmailing by the complainant’s (Vartika’s) husband and his family members, the complainant and her family gave money to her husband. Due to the fear of the marriage breaking, the complainant and her parents fulfilled their demands right from the beginning," she said in the FIR.</p>.<p>The complaint also mentioned physical abuse. "In 2016 when the complainant visited Colombo with her husband, he hit her with a marble box. She fractured her hand in the incident," it said.</p>
