Candidates aspiring for seats in professional courses based on the Common Entrance Test (CET) ranking are likely to get an opportunity for an extended round of counselling based on the second round of seat counselling.

.
The seat remaining after the second round of counselling would be offered in the extended round. As per the schedule of events, option entry for the second round of counselling closes by 8 pm on Saturday. Based on the choices entered online by candidates during the option entry, the seats are allotted.

Even as the option entry was in progress on Saturday, several parents and students staged a protest in front of the KEA office demanding another opportunity for option entry of seats. Following the protest, the KEA officials assured them that an extended round would be conducted. However, the dates for this have not yet been decided. The seat allotment for second round will be announced on Sunday.

The problem started on Friday itself when some students gathered at KEA office asking for one more chance to enter their choice of seats. Some students claimed that during the option entry, they had entered only two or three choices for seats and had failed to secure any seat among those options.

Another demand was that, since some of them were unlikely to get seats among their declared top priority of seats (in the chronology of the seat choices entered by them during the option entry round), they wanted the KEA officials to at least allow them to select seats from their least priority choices.

The KEA officials had denied it on the grounds that it was in conflict with the seat allotment procedure. For, when a student enters a list of options, the seat is allotted based on the chronology of these options.

Once allotted, the seats in the bottom of the priority list will be allotted to the candidates with lower ranks. Hence, if a student wishes to participate in the next round for a better seat, he will be allotted a seat only if a better seat (according to the candidate’s chronology of choices) is available.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, a KEA officer said, “We had given them time for trial entry. In addition, there was a mock allotment too and students were given two days’ time to redo the option entry based on the indicated seat availability in the mock allotment.

However, several students seem to have not understood the procedure properly. The students were also quite clearly told that they could enter any number of choices for the colleges and branches that they aspired and the available seats for their ranks would be allotted.

However, in spite of that, some students seem to have entered only a few options missing out on seat allotment.”
