<div>Urban Development Minister Vinaykumar Sorake has said that the State government will develop Mysuru, Bengaluru and Kalaburagi as smart cities.<br /><br />Speaking to media persons after opening a seminar on smart cities here on Wednesday, the minister said that as Mysuru, Bengaluru and Kalaburagi could not meet the guidelines laid down by the Centre for its smart cities initiative, it had been decided to implement the same concept with State funds.”<br /><br />The minister said that the government would spend Rs 100 crore per year - for five years - for developing Mysuru and Kalaburagi. The funding may differ for Bengaluru for which Rs 2,500 crore was allocated last year. He said that this funding would be in addition to Rs 200 crore allotted to every selected city under the chief minister’s special grant and Nagarothana schemes.<br /><br />“The State will try to impress upon the Centre to reconsider its decision to drop the aforementioned cities from smart city project,” he said. Earlier, addressing builders from across the country and also abroad, Sorake appealed to the fraternity to invest in smart technology. “Rapid urbanisation, propelled by migration of youths from villages in search of jobs, is causing strain on existing civic amenities. The construction sector is the biggest driver of gross domestic product (GDP),” said Sorake.<br /><br />The event titled ‘BuildTech’15, Smart Cities,’ a builder’s perspective, was organised by Builders Association of India and Confederation of Real Estate Development Association of India (CREDAI), in association with Mysuru Urban Development Authority.<br /><br /></div>
