<p>Property owners who made errors in the Self Assessment Scheme (SAS) have a last chance to rectify them in one month starting Wednesday. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The BBMP has given a one-month window period and has proposed to book cases against those violating the rule. <br /><br />“A lot of people have given wrong information during the SAS tax system of 2016-17. These people will be given a one-month window to make changes. A provision has been made to correct the mistakes and make payment online or through a selected bank between December 14 and January 13,” M K Gunashekhar, chairman of the Tax and Finance Standing Committee, said.<br /><br />“All citizens should have a relook at their declarations. Even details related to changes in the use of property, zonal classification and dimensions of the building should be provided. The officials will make door-to-door visits in February. The corporation will book cases against taxpayers, if there are discrepancies,” he noted. <br /><br />Gunashekhar said, BBMP will take up a survey of all tech parks, shopping malls, industrial units and verify declarations by the owners. The remaining properties will be verified through GIS-enabled property tax information system (GEPTIS). All information will be uploaded on the official website, he said. The BBMP hopes to collect Rs 3,151 crore from property tax. <br /><br />“We have collected Rs 1,600 crore till now. An amount of Rs 110 crore was collected through court cases and Rs 100 crore was collected after demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes. The Palike has been able to collect Rs 150 crore from tax, Rs 23 crore from interest and Rs 150 crore from penalty after the court favoured the BBMP with regard to outdoor advertisements,” he said. <br /><br />Joint Commissioner (Revenue) Venkatachalapathy admitted that there were problems in the payment of property tax. “There were technical glitches and some have paid extra money this year. This will be sorted out and adjusted during 2017-18”, he promised. <br /> </p>
