Will extend khata conversion facility to other cities: Minister

Bengaluru: The state government will extend the facility for conversion of ‘B’ khata properties to ‘A’ khata to owners in cities other than Bengaluru, Urban Development Minister B S Suresha informed the Legislative Council on Monday.  

Responding to a question from MLC C N Manjegowda, who sought to know if the state government was contemplating extending the opportunity for khata conversion to areas beyond the jurisdiction of BBMP and BDA in the state, Suresha said, “The government is seriously considering taking the Bengaluru model across the state. We will facilitate conversion from ‘B’ khata to ‘A’ khata by collecting development charges from property owners.” 

The minister said that a detailed proposal had been submitted to the state’s Law Department. “A final decision on extending this facility to other urban areas will be taken once we get the feedback from the law department,” said Suresha.

Action will be initiated not only against those developing layouts without authorisation but also against officials who are not evicting such layouts, said the Urban Development Minister.
