Dyslexics can claim quota under CET

Those who possess valid certificate issued by competent authorities are eligible to claim seat under disabilities quota of three per cent.

The State government has issued an order defining dyslexia as mental illness - a disability. The section 9 (1) G of the CET Admission Rules 2006 defines blindness, low vision, leprosy (cured), hearing impairment, locomotor disability, mental retardation and mental illness. The new rule comes into effect from the academic year 2010-11. Maharashtra government has also brought a similar rule into practice from this year. This rule does not apply to those selecting seats through ComedK.

Candidates, eligible for reservation, have to submit a certificate issued by Nimhans or All India Institute of Speech and Hearing in Mysore or psychiatrists with M Phil degree or government doctors not below the rank of district surgeon to prove learning disability. The certificates have to be submitted to the Examination Authority by May 2. For details, call Prof Gopalan of Malleswaram Dyslexia Association at 93419 19101.
