Filing of case against TV crew flayed

Last Updated 30 July 2012, 18:19 IST

Former Union Minister Janardhan Poojary flayed the police department for filing case against TV crew. The police should have  rewarded them for giving valuable information as evidence for the attack on youth at a homestay in Padil.

Speaking to mediapersons, Poojary came down heavily against the police officials and also Mangalore City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh for taking action against the TV crew.

He said that media is the fourth estate and attempting to demoralize media will only result in anti-democratic rule.

He alleged that the BJP government has made the police department dormant and powerless. The officials are just the puppets in the hands of the government, he accused.

Stating that booking TV crew will have major impact, Poojary asked why did not concerned police inspector receive the call, when the call was made by the TV journalist and what was the need for pointing out at the TV scribes for not informing the police. He said it was a pre planned attack and absolutely a barbaric act.

He said “it is a tragedy that police are humiliating the media persons. The Police Commissioner should have moral responsibility and should act accordingly.” He also said that the TV crew will be felicitated for their helpful act at Kudroli Gokarnatheshwara temple with a cash prize of  Rs 10000, he added.
