<p>A severed hand found in a lake recently has sent cops into a tizzy, who have been bogged down by such cases in the days preceding the particular incident.<br /><br /></p>.<p>On May 25, South police recovered a severed hand from Varuna lake on Mysore - T Narsipura road. The floating hand in the water was first noticed by tourists, as the lake serves as boating point. Soon after receiving the information, the cops swung into action and did a recce of the whole area till night, only to return empty-handed.<br /><br />Superintendent of Police R Dileep said that it has been now decided to send the hand for DNA test at forensic science laboratory (FSL) in Bangalore. The DNA test will help trace the sex and age of the deceased. <br /><br />According to the preliminary information, it is a left hand, belonging to a male with no marks or tattoos. However, quoting a doctor, a source said that barring pelvic bone through which the sex of the body could be easily identified, it is difficult to say in the case of other bones.<br /><br />Sources however said that an autopsy has also been conducted at the mortuary attached to Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC and RI) to retrieve the information, if any.<br /><br /> But the report is awaited. Apart from this, the police have asked the authorities at K R Hospital to provide the details of patients who underwent treatment for grievous injuries between May 20 and 25.<br /><br />What has added to the worry of investigators is that no such cases (of severed hand missing from a body) have been reported from other parts of the district and State. As is the procedure, during such incidents, police sound alert across the State. <br /><br />Earlier, in the months of January and March, the same police had recovered skeletons of two dead bodies at Varuna lake near Tudki Madaiahana Hundi, popularly known as T M Hundi near Mosambayanahalli in the taluk.<br /><br /> The miscreants had drowned the body after tying the same to a huge stones. It’s only after the skin got worn out, did the bodies surface. Here too, the case remains a mystery till date, with investigators hitting a dead end.<br /><br />Instances of hacking people to death elsewhere and disposing the body at other places, especially in the afore mentioned manner is done only to mislead the police. The same could not be ruled out in this case too, added police sources.</p>
