<p>Tumakuru: An island will be developed in Amanikere lake and a glass bridge will also be laid to connect the lake with the island to make it a tourist spot, said District In-charge Minister G Parameshwara. </p><p>Spelling out a couple of development projects for the district while addressing mediapersons here during the Republic Day celebrations on Sunday, Parameshwara said that a bird sanctuary will also be developed at the island. A blue print for the holistic development of the Amanikere lake has been readied and further process would be initiated for the implementation of the plan at the earliest, he added. </p><p>A model helicopter will be stationed at BGS Circle and HAL firm has agreed to provide one model helicopter to the city, he informed. Besides, a proposal has been sent to the government to install the bust of B R Ambedkar on the City Municipal Corporation premises. Ambedkar's bust will be installed once the government gives the approval. The Siddhartha Education Society will bear the expenses to install the bust, he added.</p><p>As many as 202 roads in the city will be developed at a cost RS 137 and also the private bus stand will be developed at a cost Rs 6 crore, he said. He assured to revive Gubbi Veeranna Rangamandira. Minister Parameshwar also promised to remodel the Akka-Tangi kere on the lines of Lal Bagh in Bengaluru and a total of 18 parks will be developed at a cost of Rs 200 crore. Meat market will be set up in five places in the city and slaughter houses will be set up in two places of the city. The minister assured to upgrade the district hospital at a cost of Rs 131 crore, he said.</p><p>Aside the stage programme, it was the colourful formations and dances by schoolchildren that filled the Republic Day celebrations with tricolour. Students of Kalidasa PU College presented a dance on national integration theme. There were several children dressed up as Gandhiji, B R Ambedkar, Onake Obavva and Bhagat Singh, who stole the limelight. </p><p>The students of Chaitanya Techno School presented a dance in full Army uniform to give a peek into the life of men who protect us. Besides, performances by Government Junior College and Bishop Sargent School in CSI Layout too won the audience. </p>
