India survives, if Constitution survives: Prakash Ambedkar

Dr. Prakash Ambedkar, grandson of Dr. B R Ambedkar --the architect of the Indian Constitution--gave people a call to unite strongly against forces that were out to change the Indian Constitution. "The country will survive only of the Constitution survives," he said.    

He spoke at the 'Save Constitution, Save India' program organised at the town hall in Tumakuru on Friday by a federation of pro-people organisations working at both the state and district levels.  

Those who swore on god and the Constitution and came to power have now set out to change the Constitution. "Central minister Ananth Kumar Hegde has made a public statement and others have also hinted at changing the Constitution," he added.

The Constitution gives equal rights to all without discrimination based on caste, creed, religion, financial status. The value of the vote of a citizen be it Chief Minister Siddaramaiah or state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa, or a common citizen; is the same.  

Though there are many religious groups and castes, the Constitution gives them the right to propagate their beliefs without hurting others. It also gives every citizen the right to follow any faith of his or her choice.

"It is ironical that leaders who took an oath on such a Constitution are now talking of changing it," Ambedkar added.
