Industrial area in Puttur devoid of basic facilities

The industrial area at Mukrampady, PUttur, with more than 50 small industries functioning, lacks basic facilities. It is a problems for the small industrialists and the labourers working in the industries.

The industrial area was developed two decades ago. However, the area does not have proper connecting roads or streetlights. There are no stormwater drains for the rainwater to flow without causing problem to anybody.

Neglected facilities

In spite of the industrialists paying tax to the City Municipal Council, the authorities concerned have neglected providing basic facilities.

The industrial area is situated 3-km away from the Mani-Mysuru highway and covers 8 acre land and has been providing employment to 1,000 labourers including women.

The mud roads connecting the industrial area has not been development. With the rainwater flowing on the road, cause inconvenience to the motorists and pedestrians. Further, rainwater enters
the industrial units, allege the labourers working in these
industrial units.

Lights

Owing to lack of street lights, no one can enter inside the industrial area after sunset. The authorities who should have looked into the development of industrial area have failed to provide basic facilities.

As the Puttur CMC has failed to respond, the entrepreneurs have pooled in money to repair the road and remove the silt from the drains by spending Rs 6 lakh. Rohith Kumar, a private employee said, “The small industrial yard lacks basic facilities. There is a vicious circle of problems in the vicinity of the yard and none has bothered to respond.”

Sathish, another employee, said, “The industrial area does not have proper street lights, stormwater drains. As a large number of women work in these units, they find it difficult to move around the area. The elected representatives too have neglected the development of industrial area.”
