<p>Making a suo motu statement in the state assembly,Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said government has superseded the Belgaum City Corporation invoking powers vested in it under the KMC Act section 99 (1).<br /><br />The Belgaum City Corporation had not carried out its function as per the KMC Act and ignored advisories issued to it from time to time to make amends to its acts of omissions and commissions.<br /><br />The City Corporation and its Mayor Manda Balekundry's behaviour have offended the sentiments of people, he said. The state government had issued a showcause notice to the City Corporation under Section 99 (1) of the KMC Act seeking explanation for not performing its duties in accordance with the law and after perusing the replies given by it, the government decided to dissolve the civic body.<br /><br />Manda and Deputy Mayor Renu Thinekar had observed Karnataka Rajyotsava Day (State's foundation day) on November one as "black day" in virtual support of the MES demand for inclusion of Belgaum with Maharastra.<br /><br />The City Corporation had also passed a resolution that it will not hold civic reception to honour the Jnanpith awardee Chandrasekhara Kambara, a development which triggered protests from various quarters in the state demanding action against the civic body.</p>
