<p>Bengaluru: Amid talks over a proposed increase of Rs 5 in milk prices by the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), the Karnataka State Hotels Association (KSHA) has written to the state government, opposing the move. </p><p>The hotels association said that with soaring coffee prices, a sudden surge in milk prices will be a major blow on the hotel industry. </p><p>GK Shetty, President of KSHA, said that some hotels are planning to provide coffee and tea only during the peak hours, that is, from 7 am to 11 am in the morning and 4 pm to 7 pm in the evening. </p>.Nandini to sell milk, curd in western UP from March 16.<p>“Should the milk prices increase by Rs 5, hotel owners will be compelled to raise the prices of hot beverages. Many hotels have already increased coffee prices from Rs 15 to anywhere between Rs 25 and Rs 30,” he said. </p><p>However, the Bruhat Bengaluru Hotels Association (BBHA) maintained that milk producers are under pressure and are incurring huge losses. Hence, a hike in milk prices may be inevitable. </p><p>PC Rao, the President of BBHA said, “Nandini is the lowest priced milk in the country. Milk producers are actually under a loss. Now there is a proposal for a Rs 5 hike. But we will wait until the government makes a decision on this. It looks like a hike is unavoidable.” </p><p>However, he added that for hoteliers, it will be challenging with rising coffee prices. “Rs 1 to Rs 3 hike will be agreeable. But a Rs 5 hike will impact hoteliers across the state,” he said. </p><p>Several hotels in Bengaluru have increased the price of coffee by 10-15% in the past month due to soaring coffee prices. With a fear of Rs 5 hike in milk price, hoteliers say they cannot help but increase the price further. </p><p>Raghavendra Bhat, owner of SLV Hotel, Basavanagudi, noted that coffee and tea drinkers will continue to consume the beverage regardless of the hike. However, he said, "The low-income group will bear the brunt of a hike in milk price." </p><p>An official from KMF said that farmers have been pressuring for a hike for over a year now due to increasing prices of cattle feed and transportation. “The proposal is being reviewed by the Chief Minister and Minister of Animal Husbandry,” he said.</p>
