<p>Loading and unloading labourers working for Karnataka Food and Civil Supply Corporation (KFCSC) will hold a statewide strike on May 23 to draw the attention of the state government to their problems.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The union’s main demands include compensation in case of death, health insurance, gratuity, provident fund, Employees State Insurance and employee identity card.<br /><br />More than 2,500 labourers working at 191 godowns across 35 districts will take part in the protest, which is likely to disrupt the government’s flagship programme Anna Bhagya, as transportation of foodgrains will be hampered.<br /><br />Union president G R Shivashankar said that several labourers had been working in KFCSC godowns since 1973. “They work on all days but are deprived of facilities, which is against labour laws. We have been struggling for 15 years and hope to receive positive response, at least this time.”<br /><br />“We have sent the notice on strike to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Food And Civil Supplies Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, the secretary to KFCSC and other government officials,” Shivashankar added.<br /><br /></p>
