Let oath be a guiding star, nursing graduates told

"Let the oath taken by the nursing students during graduation ceremony be a guiding star in the profession," wished Athena Institute of Health Sciences chairperson Raviraj S Shettian.

He was presiding over the graduation ceremony of the 12th batch of GNM, 10th batch of BSc, 7th batch of Post Basic BSc and MSc Nursing at the Town Hall, Mangaluru.

Stating that nurses face a Herculean task these days, Shettian rued that the thin line between business and service is fast diminishing in the profession. "You have chosen a noble profession. Wherever you go, love humanity and always think to be a better human being," he told the fresh graduates.

Addressing the gathering, AECS Group of Institutions dean and Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI), Karnataka branch, secretary Prof P Girijamba Devi, the guest of honour, appreciated the support extended by Athena Institute of Health Sciences towards TNAI and congratulated the graduates, especially the 64 rank holders (from RGUHS).

Stressing the importance of creativity, righteousness and courage in nursing profession, she encouraged the students to believe in their individual capacities.

Chinchumol Thomas, who secured the fourth rank in the fourth year examination conducted by RGUHS in September 2017, and other 63 students who secured subject-wise ranks from BSc and PBBSc nursing and many other prizes and award holders were honoured. A total of 113 graduates received their certificates on the occasion.

AIHS secretary Asha Shettian and Institute vice principal Dr Sr Alphonsa Ancheril were present while principal Prof Sr Dhanya Devasia presented the annual report.

The graduation ceremony was followed by a scintillating cultural programme by the students.
