BJP dubs Karnataka govt's hijab ban lift in schools 'vote bank politics'

Hijab was banned in educational institutions by the previous BJP government to bring uniformity among students. The CM wanted create division among students' fraternity on the line of religion, says BJP.

New Delhi: The BJP on Saturday condemned Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's statement that ban on hijab in schools will be lifted. 

"The CM statement on hijab is highly condemnable. When matter is in Supreme Court, how can the CM issuing directed to lift the ban on hijab, " BJP state president B Y Vijayendra said here. 

"The CM statement is nothing but creating division among students in schools. The CM is indulging in vote bank politics ahead of next year Lok Sabha polls. Whenever, the Congress fearing defeat in elections, the party was indulging in vote bank politics," he told media persons.

Hijab was banned in educational institutions by the previous BJP government to bring uniformity among students. The CM wanted create division among students' fraternity on the line of religion, he said. 

Siddaramaiah on Friday said he has directed the withdrawal of the hijab ban order in the state from Saturday. 

Stating that the restrictions on wearing hijab (head scarf) in educational institutions in the state will be lifted from December 23, Siddaramaiah added that choice of dress and food is personal and no one should interfere in it.
