<p>Satya Nadella, who is a frontrunner for the post of the chief executive officer (CEO) of Microsoft, is remembered by his teachers in the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), from where he passed out with distinction in first grade, as a silent performer not much into extra-curricular activities. <br /><br /></p>.<p>That made him not very popular on the campus during his days there between 1984 and 1988.<br /><br />But his being a frontrunner to the coveted job has not failed to spread joy at MIT. Dr Vinod V Thomas, director of MIT, told Deccan Herald that Satya was a very cool personality, not highlighted anywhere in the campus.<br /><br />The Hyderabadi, who pursued his degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering stream in MIT, is currently the executive vice president in the Cloud and Enterprise Division of Microsoft. <br /><br />“People recall him as a good student,” said Thomas. The director personally is unable to recall the memories of teaching Satya as it was some 25 years ago. Moreover, as Satya was not into many things and not so popular, it is very hard to remember him. <br /><br />“I have taught many students and there are also a couple of them who are working in top positions. We all in MIT are happy to know that he is in the race for Microsoft CEO.” <br /><br />Thomas spoke to some of Satya’s friends who shared an accommodation with him in California. He said they do want to underplay or overplay the issue. Thomas said Satya’s achievements were a matter of pride for not only MIT or Manipal, but for the entire country.<br /><br />Manipal University Chancellor Dr Ramdass Pai said he was very much delighted that Satya was a nominee for the post. It is secondary whether he becomes the CEO or not. There are various factors that decide the choice for the post. <br /><br />“I hope he will succeed Steve Ballmer as Microsoft CEO,” he said.<br />Thomas said the batch of 1988 batch was planning a silver jubilee reunion for the alumnus in December 2013. If at all Satya is chosen as the CEO, it will be a cherry on the cake of celebrations.<br /><br />The MIT campus is brimming with joy, especially students who are proud that one of their alumni is a contender for the top post. Rish Raj Singh, a third year student, says the confidence level is doubled and all MITians feel that they are in no way less to IITians.<br />“We are really proud of our college and also proud of Satya. His achievements show that nothing is impossible,” he said.<br /></p>
