PM makes brief stopover at Belagavi airport

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived at Sambra Airport here on Saturday during a brief stopover ahead of his visit to Kolhapur in Maharashtra, was accorded a warm welcome by the district administration.

Deputy Commissioner N Jayaram welcomed Modi with a bouquet. MLA Ganesh Hukkeri and Inspector General of Police (North Range) Umesh Kumar were present.

Member of Parliament Prakash Hukkeri, after welcoming the prime minister, submitted a memorandum to him seeking grants for sugar cane growers. He also sought his consent for setting up a Bench of the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal in Belagavi, besides upgrading of the Vijayapura-Athani-Chikkodi-Kamatanur-Gotur State highway as national highway.

The prime minister arrived from Mumbai at 1.05 pm. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra Governor C V Rao and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis accompanied the prime minister.
