<p>They took out a protest rally on Wednesday from Dr H N Circle to the government hospital premises where they staged a dharna, demanding the State government to address various problems in the government hospitals immediately. They raised slogans against the government which, they alleged, is showing apathy towards health issues. <br /><br />The DYFI district unit Channarayappa said that the government hospitals including Chelur and Gulur hospitals have severe shortage of staff and have no basic facilities. Hence, the government hospitals are unable to provide essential health services to the public, he said. <br /><br />Elaborating on the deficiencies in the government hospital, he said, there are no doctors to treat the patients and many hospitals don’t even have enough staff, let alone surgeons. <br /><br />Corruption<br /><br />Besides, the patients, majority of whom come from the economically weaker section, have been deprived of the health care due to corruption in these government hospitals, he complained. District unit DYFI Secretary M P Munivenkatappa said, the elected representatives have turned blind eye to the poor plight of the government hospitals. <br /><br />Citing the failure of the hospital administration as reasons for many doctors neglecting their duty, he alleged that the doctors spend most of their time in the private hospitals. They also pressurise the patients in the government hospital to get treatment in the private hospitals, he said. <br /><br />Funds misused<br /><br />The funds released for pregnant women allowances, delivery, ‘tottilu-madilu’ scheme and other such facilities have been misused, he complained. He also accused the hospital administration of irregularity in purchase of furniture, equipment and computers. The secretary demanded an investigation into the irregularities and misappropriation of funds. <br /><br />Leaders G M Ramakrishnappa, Hosahudya Ramalingappa, Jayashankar, Valmiki Ashwatha and Radio Kittappa led the protest. <br /></p>
