<p>The ryots are preparing land to sow seeds Sowing had already begun in many villages of Kollegal, Gundlupet and Chamarajanagar taluks. <br /><br />Of the total 1.40 lakh hectares of agricultural land, sowing was in progress in 50,000 hectares. </p>.<p>Several farmers now prefer to sow sunflower, jowar, groundnut, other pulses and oil seeds. <br />According to sources, the ryots are going groundnut seeds and already about 100 quintals of groundnut had been sold through authorised dealers.</p>.<p>Joint Director of Agriculture B M Shivaraju told Deccan Herald that the department had arrangements for the sale of seeds and fertiliser. </p>.<p>Nearly, 8,000 quintal of fertilisers and 400 quintals of seeds are available. Steps had been taken to distribute seeds to farmers at subsidised rate among small and marginal farmers. </p>.<p>Besides, measures have also been taken by the department to improve fertility of the soil in wet land areas through supplying nutrients.</p>
