<p>Bidar: Karnataka Janapada Academy Chairman Gollahalli Shivaprasad said that an All India Folklore Women’s Festival will be held in the coming days apart from a Tribal Folklore Festival from the next year.</p><p>Speaking after presenting the annual awards to achievers at a programme organised by the Academy at Channabasava Pattaddevaru Rangamandir here on Saturday, he said that folklore has the power to strengthen love, attachment and relationships. </p><p>Stating that birth, death and everything else are intertwined with folklore, he said that people should be able to feel the touch of folk songs. If folk songs do not develop, reality and truth will disappear. There should be a cultural confluence of experts, artistes, scholars and singers. This will foster good relations, he opined. </p><p>Kannada & Culture joint director Basavaraj Hugar said, “Bengaluru and Mysuru are called cultural capitals of the state. Why not Bidar district? This is a land that has given a social message to the entire world and upheld equality. Bidar district has many philosophical singers when compared to other districts”, he said. Stating that there is a need to redefine the culture of Karnataka, he said that folk songs have remained on the streets and the artistes have failed to get a chance in many big programmes. The art forms come from a caste background and they need to be freed from it, he added.</p><p>Academy member Vijayakumar Sonare demanded that all artistes have to be given a monthly allowance at the age of 50 years instead of 58 years.</p><p>Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Sharma inaugurated the programme. Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr Girish Badole, Kannada & Culture assistant director Sidram Shinde, Academy members Halathumbi Murthy, Manjunath Ramanna, Mehboob Killedar, Shivamurthy Bhimbai, Ningappa Mudenur and Manjunath Bevinakatti were present. </p>
