Residents of villages under Hethur hobli in the taluk staged a protest against heavy vehicles plying on the Bisle-Kukke Subramanya Road, even though the district administration has banned the movement of heavy vehicles on the stretch.

“The Deputy Commissioner has imposed a ban on heavy vehicles on the stretch of the national highway 75 from
Shiradi. However, drivers of heavy vehicles ply on this road by bribing the security personnel at the entrance of state highway 87, Bisile-Subramanya road,” they said.

The villagers protested by intercepting heavy vehicles at the Vanaguru junction connecting the road to Hethur.

“If heavy vehicles are allowed to ply on the stretch, it may result in landslides and villagers in the vicinity will have to face inconvenience to
connect with Dakshina Kannada. For public convenience, only buses are allowed on this road. Until the road works are completed, heavy vehicles should not be allowed,” demanded Sathish, a village resident.
